International Adoption Illegal…

This makes me so sad, morose even, for the little ones.

Recently received in my email from a RR advocate:

“Ukraine just passed a law that children under 5 years old cannot be adopted internationally, except those with specific special needs. As of right now, FAS [Fetal Alcohol Syndrome] is not on that list so we put a hold on Eileen’s profile from being on our site until we hear further. I hope that FAS will be added, but we really won’t know for a few months.”

This is so silly to me, because in documentary after documentary these children are considered “defectives” by their own society.  Nobody wants them, yet now they won’t allow these children even a glimmer of hope for a forever family to love them and value them as a blessing if, in fact, that family is from another country.  What are the odds?  Certainly nobody conditioned to believe that these children are “defective” (nobody from their own country) is going to lovingly adopt them.

According to Webster [1913]:

Wanting in something; incomplete; lacking a part; deficient; imperfect; faulty; – applied either to natural or moral qualities; as, a defective limb; defective timber; a defective copy or account; a defective character; defective rules.

Any thoughts?

Anybody crochet or knit? Perhaps we could begin a donation box of baby blankets and hats for the infants and toddlers in the orphanages overseas…
